Pilothouse Pilsner
This is probably the best beer I’ve had this week, and you can’t buy it in stores! (Ignore the fact that the empty bottle is a Grolsch swingtop.)
It’s homebrew. I cheat, though, and use a kit. This particular one is the Pilothouse Pilsner from Mr. Beer. The beer tastes as good as an import and certainly better than most name brand domestics.
I’ve had my Mr. Beer kit for around eight months now and absolutely love it. In that time, I’ve probably brewed around ten different beers (two gallons each time), ranging from simple styles such as pale ales to more complex ones such as blueberry and strawberry ale.
I was lucky to get mine for cheap from someone who had received the kit as a gift and couldn’t take it with her when she moved. It’s fun to do, and I’ve learned a lot about brewing. The downside, though, is it’s time consuming to clean bottles and the such. Plus, it takes a few weeks per batch. Depending on the specific style you brew, it can save money. However, the real prize is in showing off my new brews to my friends and coworkers.
