Thailand Bans Alcohol Advertising

A national committee on alcohol-consumption control in Thailand just agreed that advertising of alcohol on Thai television and radio (except for international professional sports events) would be banned. Wow.

Alcohol advertising tends to be among the most creative and entertaining. Think of all the Absolut ads and neat Super Bowl commercials. Furthermore, this amounts to censorship, which is something I (and basically the whole blogosphere) do not promote. Hopefully, the rest of the world won’t fall prey to this.

I think a better approach would be to balance the demands of alcohol advertisers with those of public interest with more advertising about responsible drinking, though that is obviously difficult to do.

Beer will always have a definite role in the diet of an individual and can be considered a cog in the wheel of nutritional foods.
