Investing in Wine
Rather than investing in vineyards and wineries, some people invest directly in wine. The Vintage Wine Fund has been in operation since Feb. 20, 2003 and has some €30 million under management, which I find just ridiculous. So far, the fund has returned 21%, which is not at all shabby. Apparently, vintage wine is a very hot commodity, and the worth of a bottle goes up as more bottles from the same vintage are opened.
However, perhaps the better investment is in counterfeit vintage wines (ignoring the legal, moral, and ethical issues).
If you’re somewhat more risk adverse (or don’t have €100,000, about $119,750, to invest), then check out this Google Answer about investing in wine mutual funds.
