Official State Wine
California State Sen. Carole Migden just introduced a bill to declare zinfandel to be the official state wine.
Excuse me?
By numbers alone, chardonnay accounted for 17% of California’s production, cabernet sauvignon was 12.5%, and zinfandel was a measly 10.4%. Plus, it’s not like California isn’t known for other wines. Just look at the movie Sideways where they were constantly chasing after the perfect pinot noir.
It seems somewhat ridiculous to me to declare zinfandel to be the official state wine, but politicians often have other vested interests.
