Bar Knowledge and Etiquette

Unlike some of the other frivolous stuff I post about (like drunk buffalo), I swear this one’s extremely useful. It’s a guide to how to behave in a bar and not make a fool of yourself. It doesn’t concern things like taking your top off and dancing drunkenly on the bar but rather about how to order a drink.

My favorite tips are:

  • Put a coaster or napkin on top of your glass if you’ll be back.
  • When ordering for a group, ask in this order: beer, mixed drinks, and specialty drinks.
  • Use common sense: “This lady ordered a Sapphire martini one time and wanted it made extra strong. But a Sapphire martini is all alcohol.”
  • Learn these words: on the rocks, neat, straight up, a double, with a twist, lowball, highball, shaken, stirred, chaser, and training wheels.

Another thing to remember is when you are ordering a “tall” drink that is a drink is a lesser amount of alcohol.

When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.
