Drinking Meets Web 2.0
Everybody, meet Extratasty. Extratasty, meet everybody. Extratasty is probably the best competitor to the ever popular Webtender, which got me through college. At the core, they’re basically the same, offering user-submitted drink recipes. The difference lies in the packaging and ease of use. I’d seen the site months before, but at that time, it was more like nascent vaporware and really didn’t amount to much (kind of like this site). However, it’s grown and is now definitely usable.
Extratasty relies on AJAX to provide a fast interface for submitting drink recipes, tagging them, adding friends, etc. It’s like flickr or digg for booze. My favorite feature is the ability to add items from your bar quickly in a manner similar to Google Suggest. Then, Extratasty tells you all of the recipes that you can make. Compare that to the very clunky In my bar at Webtender.
While you’re perusing their site, I suggest also checking out the T-shirt competition. The grand prize is an iPod nano, 2 T-shirts, $1250 cash, $250 Threadless gift certificate, and random other stuff. It closes March 27. What’s especially interesting is you can see all of the current submissions.
Much of the site is still annoyingly unfinished, but the drinking database and associated functions are available. And well, that’s all I really need.
Also, you know you want to vote for my Amaretto Sundae.
