History of Irish Whiskey

When’s the last time you had Irish whiskey? In all honesty, I don’t think I’ve ever had a single sip in my short lifetime. It’s unsurprising though, considering that Americans only drink 430,000 cases of Irish whiskey a year (less than 0.5% of all liquor consumption), whereas we drink millions of cases of Scotch. This is due to the combination of World War I and Prohibition from which Irish whiskey production never recovered.

Irish is great stuff. Good as a shot, on the rocks or chilled straight-up. If you’re thinking Martini, try some Jamesons instead. It’s smoother than Scotch or Bourbon so it’s a good starter Whiskey too.
