Put Down That Screwdriver!

If you’re like me, you sometimes order drinks based on nutritional value. “Yeah, I’ll have a screwdriver tonight. I need more Vitamin C.”

Well soon, wine may be substituted for that orange juice and vodka. Researchers at UC Davis have discovered the enzyme that synthesizes tartaric acid. The acid is key to producing wine, and genetic modification could produce grapes with elevated levels of Vitamin C.

Once this happens, I wonder if wineries will be able to advertise the healthy benefits of wine consumption. We already know that brewers can’t do it.
