Fining Drunks in Bars
This is just absolutely ridiculous to me. Texas police are going undercover into bars and writing tickets or making arrests for public intoxication. The big catch is that the offenders haven’t even left the bar yet!
It’s one thing to be drunk in public and subsquently destroy property or worse. It’s quite another to be in a bar and have had a few too many drinks. The program is “aimed at cutting down on drunken driving”, but I think calling cabs for drunk patrons would be a much better approach than writing them tickets.
