Mini Bottles Are Big Sellers

I’m a big proponent of buying nips, or “mini” bottles, that come in 50 mL bottles. They’re useful for trying out new liquors without committing to a whole larger bottle, and it forms part of my tips for buying booze on a budget.

Anyway, it seems that Oregonians agree. In the last six months of 2005, they bought 62,062 nips of Smirnoff vodka alone! Rounding out the top ten were Crown Royal whiskey, Absolut vodka, Jack Daniels Black Label, Wild Turkey 101, Cuervo Especial tequila, Jagermeister, Pendleton whiskey, Skyy vodka, and Yukon Jack liqueur.

The fact that five out of the top ten nips are forms of whiskey really surprises me, considering that the whiskey market is in a decline. The rest are unsurprising, though I wish the choices had been more adventurous. After all, pretty much everyone knows what Smirnoff vodka or Absolut tastes like.
