Does Budweiser Actually Taste Good?
I’m sure to receive flames for this one, but here are two things I want to be clear on:
- Yes, I am something of a beer snob, but I try not to rub it in your face.
- Budweiser is not on my list of favorite beers, but I do occasionally drink it when there’s little choice.
With that out of the way, the question is: does Budweiser actually taste good when fresh?
Anheuser-Busch recently set up a fresh beer delivery in Columbus, Nebraska. The beer arrived 12 hours after it was produced in Colorado, and the product was met with rave reviews from customers.
“I am not a beer drinker,” Joyce Rerucha said, but “I like this, this is really good. This I would drink…It doesn’t have the after, bitter taste like most beer.”
Herman Lauterbach, a beer drinker for 40 years, said that it was the best beer he has ever tasted.
All I can say is I want to go visit one of the major breweries now and see if I can get day-fresh beer. I visited the Miller brewery in Wisconsin when I was maybe eight years old, but I obviously didn’t get a chance to sample.
The beer that we get in stores is usually 2-5 weeks old, so it’s not exactly fresh any more. I suppose the only solutions here are to visit breweries (including microbreweries, brewpubs, etc.) or to brew your own.
Note that the article doesn’t say “Budweiser” anywhere, but I make that assumption from the picture and that Anheuser-Busch’s primary beer is Bud.

Bud, at its best, is palatable if served so cold that it’s almost frozen in the can. That said, freshness does have its value.
For instance, Elysian Brewing in Seattle sells many of its beers in 20 oz bottles, and they’re excellent beers. However, fresh from the tap at the brewpub, the beers are amazing.
As for the beer drinker for over 40 years saying that the factory-fresh Bud was the best beer he’s ever tasted, well, that just speaks for itself. (I guess that outs me as a beer elitist.)

You know I used to be a beer snob, but lately I’ve been drinking nothing but canned Budweiser. I dunno just for the hell of it, I picked up a 6 pack and have been hooked ever since. I pour it in a frosted mug and it almost tates as good as on draft.
