Carnival of Drinking
What is it?
Inspired by Darcy and Paul’s posts about the cocktail blogosphere and bar blogging events, I decided to grab the bull by the horns and create a Carnival of Drinking. The carnival will run biweekly on Mondays, and submissions will be due on each Sunday at 10 PM ET.
All are welcome to participate be you a cocktail blogger, wine blogger, beer blogger, or regular Joe who wrote a blog entry related to drinking. It’s up to each week’s host to decide on what submissions to accept.
For those of you unfamiliar with carnivals, they’re basically a compendium of various blog posts hosted by a different blog each week. Blog Carnival’s FAQ provide a good, more detailed introduction.
Please bookmark and return to this entry to stay up to date regarding the carnival. I wrote this in something of a rush and will organize and edit it more in the future. Thanks!
Why should I participate?
The carnival’s designed to drive traffic to individual blogs. This is especially good for those who have yet to get much exposure in the drinking blogosphere.
Aside from traffic, though, what I’m trying to do is create a community of people with a likeminded attitude towards wanting to learn more about the world of alcohol.
How do I host a carnival?
If you’re blogging about cocktails, beer, wine, etc., then please contact me about hosting carnival editions! Editions are weekly, so there are plenty of them to host! Send me your email address, blog URL, desired week(s), and desired submission deadline (if unspecified, it will default to Sunday @ 10 PM ET). After that, I’ll email you back with the information necessary to host the carnival.
As host, you get to choose what submissions to post, the date of the carnival, and the theme (obviously within the realm of drinking).
Where’s the next edition?
I will host the first edition of the carnival this coming Monday, May 1. Please have submissions in by April 30 at 10 PM ET. After that, please check the carnival page. There is no specific theme for this carnival. Please submit anything related to drinking, whether it’s about wine, beer, cocktails, drinking news, etc.!
How can I help?
Aside from the obvious hosting a carnival and submitting to the carnival, you can do these things:
- Link to it: There’s a nice sidebar (look at the top-right corner of this post) that you can include on your page.
- Post about it: Each week, there will be a call for submissions. It’s important to remind your blog readers that it’s coming up!
- Link to the next carnival: A schedule of upcoming editions is available.
- Design a logo: We need a logo for the carnival! It’ll be duly attributed as your work, and I know there are better graphic designers out there!
