Whiskey for Guinea Pigs
Over 17 years ago, Buffalo Trace began producing 1500 experimental barrels of whiskey. Each barrel had purposely unique characteristics. Now, the results are in, and they’re selling some of the experimental whiskey.
Each released experiment will only have 400 375ml bottles available at $45.35 each if you can find them. The first three to be released are:
- French Oak: Bourbon aged 10 years in French Oak barrels in which the staves were first air-dried for 2 years. It’s sugary sweet and dark caramel in color.
- Twice Barreled: It was first aged 8 years 8 months in one barrel and then put in a new barrel. It’s heavy on oak and has a long warm finish.
- Fire Pot Barrel: The barrel was heated to 102 degrees for 23 minutes before use. It has a smokey nose and hints of fruit and tobacco.
