Using Wine to Combat Alcohol Abuse

Now, here’s a solution you’re bound never to see in the USA: using wine to combat alcohol abuse.

The Italian farmers organization Coldiretti is recommending that parents educate their children on the pleasures of appreciating wine to prevent the commonplace binging occurring with other drinks such as alcopops or beer. To combat alcohol abuse in youngsters, they’re encouraging wine drinking.

This is in obvious contrast to the US where we’re probably more likely to see a return to Prohibition than parents advocating wine drinking. To me, it’s up in the air as to whether it’s better or not, especially since I don’t have kids of my own. It’s just neat to see the difference in attitudes towards drinking.

Interesting idea… Kinda takes the mystery out of it, and while it’s certainly easy enough to abuse wine, you’re far more likely to develop bad habits while abusing hard liquor or beer. Shots get you hammered quickly, and beer just goes down too easy and is distributed in mass quantities. You don’t see kegs of wine. Makes sense to me…
