Will the Real Beerbelly Please Stand Up?
Long before anyone other than my close friends were reading this site (and sometimes I wonder if they even bother now), I wrote about Under Development’s Beerbelly, which is now receiving a heck of a lot of press, so I didn’t bother writing about it again. However, this definitely proves interesting to me. Two guys in Somerville, MA, Michael Chiapperini and Paul Goode, are left in the dust.
They originally patented a bladder that did the same thing in 2000. In fact, they even trademarked the name “Beer Belly”. However, they decided not to go with it after 9/11 due to the increased security at public events. However, Under Development Inc. now has a product that’s quickly approaching 10,000 sales at $34.95 a pop and is getting a lot of media attention while Chiapperini is unfortunately unemployed.
I suppose this just goes to show that if you have an idea, run with it as far as you can and don’t let anything get in the way.
In the meantime, I’m looking forward to seeing the Wine Rack, Under Development’s upcoming fake boob that can hold a tipsy bonus.
