Louisiana and Mississippi’s Convoluted Beer Laws

The US probably has among the most complex set of laws governing alcohol, and regional differences are especially interesting. For example, it’s news to me that there are pretty strict beer laws in Louisiana and Mississippi.

By law, MS beer can only have up to 6% ABV, and beer must be qualified by the Tax Commission.

In LA, the numbers are about the same. However, wine and spirits licenses (separate from beer licenses) allow the sale of beer with more alcohol than 6% ABV. However, MS bans those beverages completely.

Basically, forget trying to buy any craft brews there.
