Meet Aperol

AperolI just received another Yelp email (I’m an enthusiastic elite Yelper), and I noticed that they’re sponsored by Aperol. I then thought, “What the heck is this?”

After nearly 100 years in Italy, Aperol is poised to be America’s next cocktail sensation…and we know yelpers will want to be among the first to experience its zesty orange flavor, sun-drenched color, low alcohol content and playful versatility. Aperol tastes great on the rocks, as a Spritz, or as a lighter alternative to orange flavored spirits.

And that is unfortunately about the only answer I can get without actually tasting it. I can add that it has very little alcohol for an aperitif at only 11%. Hopefully, the taste is nothing like Campari (same parent company). Otherwise, I can’t imagine it being at all successful here.

Also, here’s a quick side note on tasting. Any bar worth going to should let you sample a little bit of a spirit if you’re curious as to what it tastes like. Yup, it’s just like Ben & Jerry’s, so don’t feel like you have to buy a whole bottle just to discover if you like it. Just don’t try it when the bar’s super crowded.
