How To Start a Wine Tasting Club

I’ve kicked this idea around a bit, but in the end, I realize I mostly just enjoy drinking wine and not picking it apart. Plus, my palate just isn’t sensitive enough.

However, if you’re in the market for a wine tasting club, then you may want to read this guide at the Charlotte Observer. It features one club called The Drinkettes who started their club 1 1/2 years ago in Santa Monica.

Some tips from them and an expert:

  • It’s a matter of organization. Clearly, there needs to be one or two people pushing it forward.
  • Decide on a style, set a theme, and agree on a budget.
  • Organize smaller groups of 8-10 people.
  • Meet once a month rather than more frequently.
  • Make it easy for everyone. Going back to the first tip, “Let the pushy one run things.”
  • Rotate hosts.
  • Don’t worry about pairing food.
