A Story of Severe Alcoholism
I normally don’t write much about alcoholism, since this is generally a site that celebrates the drink. However, it’s definitely a concern, and I hardly wish to turn a blind eye toward it. Personally, I’m in favor of a middle ground of drinking moderately, but different things work for different people. Anyway, for a fascinating and rather extreme case of alcoholism, check out Debbie’s story. It’s really quite amazing.
Her first drink was at four weeks of age when her parents used beer to medicate her, which was likely very different from a small bit of brandy for teething pain. Her first hangover that she could remember was at age 7. Her first alcohol poisoning came at the surprisingly late age of 12, and her first black out (I’m curious as to how much it took) was at age 13. With that sort of childhood, it’s somewhat unsurprising that in adulthood she was daily drinking 18-24 beers a day and a pint of vodka, and she was only 5′2″, 105 lbs.
Anyway, I think the point of this is please don’t get even close to this point and read this story.
