10 Commandments of Wine Tasting

So you’re going to drive around the countryside this weekend drinking your way through it Sideways-style. Well, don’t forget to follow the 10 commands of wine tasting:

  1. Thou shall have a designated driver.
  2. Thou shall be aware of your surroundings.
  3. Thou shall start with the whites, then proceed to the reds.
  4. Thou shall take thy sample and move away from the tasting table.
  5. Thou shall swallow with discretion; spit carefully into designated receptacle.
  6. Thou shall not make a meal out of the appetizers.
  7. Thou shall spend quality time with the wine and fellow tasters (unless they are violators of other commands and then you’re off the hook).
  8. Thou shall not put on airs.
  9. Thou shall not steal.
  10. Thou shall buy something (even if it’s just a hat).
