Irish Drinkers = Big Spenders

A recent study shows that Irish households spend the most on alcohol by far compared to other European countries. On average, Irish households spend €1675 ($2152) per year. The next closest was Denmark at €531 ($682) per year. Of course, part of this could be due to Ireland’s high taxes on alcohol, though the Irish are certainly doing their part in upholding stereotypes.

Some other published statistics address binge drinking, drunk driving, alcohol-fueled murders, underweight births, alcoholism, and death. Yeah, drinking too much has a downside.
