Booze Substitutes

While most DTEIY readers are more likely to shun the idea of substitutes for alcohol in recipes, there are those times when it’s necessary to leave the booze out. As a result, here’s a list of substitutes courtesy of this MSNBC article:

  • white wine: white grape juice, apple juice, or nonalcoholic wine
  • red wine: red grape juice, cranberry juice, or nonalcoholic wine
  • port, rum, brandy, sweet sherry: apple juice + 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • bourbon: vanilla extract
  • beer: nonalcoholic beer, apple cider, or both

Of course, that’ll make for one boring flambe, but it may work wonders for recipes where liquor isn’t a central focus.
