Up Means an Extra Buck

Remember the huge uproar over a guy getting charged an extra buck for a martini up? Oh wait, I never wrote about that. That was The Martini Lounge. Anyway, Laura sent me a couple links demonstrating that the case has blown nationwide.

Basically, it boils down to the Glenville, NY bar Water’s Edge Lighthouse claiming that a martini up has more booze than a martini on the rocks, so they are justified in charging an extra dollar.

To add to the comment fray, “What?!” If you’re making martinis on the rocks and martinis up using different recipes, then you have no idea what you’re doing. The only thing that should be different is the style of glass and whether the ice is served in the drink or strained out and served on the side. Besides, if you want to charge extra for drinks, do it in a college bar. You should know you’ll get torn a new one if you do it to the notoriously picky martini drinker.

When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.
