Pint of Beer Named English Icon

A government-funded project to paint a portrait of England has named the pint of beer as one of the English national icons. Named along with other notable icons such as Stonehenge, the Magna Carta, and Monty Python, beer has finally taken its offical place in the list of things that make up the British identity.

I’m curious as to whether the same would hold for the US. It’d probably be something more specific like a can of American lager or a bottle of light beer though, rather than just a pint of beer.

I think a glass of coca-cola would be more iconic of America - US has always somewhat frowned upon alcohol, although that hasn’t stopped anyone from drinking it. The stigma would still prevent establishing it as an icon though.

I definitely agree, though if given a long list like the English one, I think light beer in a can would definitely show up.

If you haven’t yet read it, the book “For God, Country, and Coca-Cola” is quite good.
