Truth Serum or Mind Warper?

Whether it’s that drunk call you made to an ex or the time you told off all Jewish people (oh wait, that’s Mel Gibson), it’s likely that you’ve said something regretful while under the influence of alcohol. However, incidents such as these bring up the question: how true are these statements? People like Gibson say it’s the tequila, but others argue that it’s just one’s true self showing.

Well, there appears to be no conclusive answer, and “experts” have a variety of opinions. The problem is that there’s no real body of research upon which we can rely. A professor of pharmacology and toxicology at UT-Austin states that it’s “something of a mirror to the soul” but that it could be a warped mirror. On the other hand, a veteran polygraph examiner at Arlington won’t examine subjects while they’re drunk, as “drunks tend to shoot off their mouths”. Basically, there’s only anecdotal evidence, and it all conflicts.

In other words, take everything I write with a grain of salt.
