Canada Is Wine Country

Wine these days seems to be associated primarily with France, Italy, Australia, and California, but in reality, wine is produced pretty much everywhere. Canada is no exception. The article features ice wine, which is made from frozen grapes picked off the vine in the dead of winter. Ice wine was originally developed in Germany, but some argue that Canada has now become the premier ice wine region. (Kind of like how the USA is now kicking France’s wine butt.)

One very interesting tidbit from the article regards the picking of the grapes. As mentioned before, it’s done in the middle of the night in the winter. The grapes must freeze, thaw, and freeze again, and the grapes aren’t even picked unless it’s steadily below 18

If you haven’t tried ice wine, definetly do it is very good. But remeber it is a dessert wine so it is sweet.

If sweet isn’t your thing, try mixing it with vodka to make an Ice Wine martini. I personally like 2:1 vodka to icewine.

Not all chemicals are bad. Without chemicals such as hydrogen and oxygen, for example, there would be no way to make water, a vital ingredient in beer.
