Frickin’ Laser Beams Protect Wine
I was excited to click on this article when I saw the headline “Lasers to fight off wine pirates“. I imagined laser beams attached to the front of boats, exploding enemies like in Star Wars. Alas, I was disappointed to learn that they’re merely using lasers to create pirate-proof labels. While still newsworthy, it’s hopelessly much more unexciting.
Holograms, invisible ink, and unique numbers are finding their way to expensive wines to prevent forgers. Considering the extraordinary increase in growth in wine collecting and investing, this seems like a smart decision, especially considering all the fakes abroad.
