Happy Birthday to NYC’s Oldest Bartender

On August 23, 2006, Hoy Wong (or Mr. Hoy) of the Algonquin Hotel, turned 90 years old. He’s New York’s oldest bartender.

He’s living a long, illustrious life and has served such notables as Dean Martin, Jerry Lewis, Judy Garland, John Lennon, and Marilyn Monroe. He’s been behind the bar for 58 years and has made around 750,000 drinks. Furthermore, “I’m not going to retire,” he says. Interestingly, he hasn’t had a drink since when I was born in 1982, though, after suffering a heart attack.
