Etymology of Plonk
While surfing the Web, wasting time as usual, I came across this interesting etymology of the word “plonk”. Meaning “inferior or cheap wine“, it’s not an overly common word in the USA, as it’s chiefly British, but it’s widely used to describe wines such as Two Buck Chuck. However, it’s interesting to note that the term “plonk” is actually Australian in origin. The word originated during World War I when various British subjects came into contact with the French, and English speakers butchered the French word blanc, as in vin blanc, i.e., white wine.
