At pretty much every restaurant in existence, you’ll pay much, much more for a bottle of wine there than elsewhere. To prevent getting too ripped off, remember this simple formula: take the price of a typical supermarket wine and multiply by 3.3 (or if you’re not so good with that decimal point, just try 3; this is just an estimate after all). This is because about 70% of a bottle of wine is pure profit. If it’s higher, then the restaurant is truly gouging. If the restaurant’s price is the answer, then they’re gouging at just the right amount.
