Screw Caps Suck, Too
Just when you thought you were safe because you only bought wine with screw caps, it turns out that “research” indicates that faults caused by screw caps are almost as common as cork taint. From a blind tasting of 13,000 wines, they found that wine with corks suffered from problems 4.4% of the time while wine with screw caps suffered from problems 2.2% of the time. Of course, the mathematician might say that’s actually half as much, but the failure rate is still astonishingly high given all the hullabaloo over screw caps.
