Story of Hook & Ladder

Hook and Ladder FoundersThe Washington Post chronicles a brief history of Hook & Ladder, a Maryland-based brewery. What’s especially interesting is that the Fleischer brothers failed at the venture once in San Francisco in the year 2000 before trying anew last year. They’ve now met success with a more solid business background (one of them got his MBA) and a different strategy of first selling beer on tap rather than in bottles. The business is now poised to reach $250,000 in sales this year with the ability to pay the two brothers actual salaries. Admirably, they’re doing this while donating a significant amount to firefighter charities (in case the name of the company isn’t obvious). They’ve also received another $300,000 in financing and are planning a major East Coast expansion, hopefully up to Boston.
