How To Taste Single Malt Scotch

Whisky in SnifterWikiHow has a fun (yet serious) little article about tasting single malt Scotch. I’ve reproduced a summary of the steps below:

  1. Buy a bottle of single malt whisky. (Duh.)
  2. Buy a good glass, preferably a snifter. This isn’t in the wiki, but some people actually prefer narrower glasses to help concentrate the smell.
  3. Swirl the whisky around and smell.
  4. Add water—but not too much.
  5. Swirl again and smell.
  6. Take a sip and swish it around your mouth.
  7. Taste the whisky.
  8. Swallow but do not open your mouth or completely close your throat.
  9. Repeat 5-8 until you run out of Scotch.

From what I’ve seen so far, the other 166 current articles in the drinks category should be good resources as well.

The difference between a drunk and a alcoholic is that a drunk doesn't have to attend all those meetings.
