Brouwerij Huyghe Floris Apple Review

Brouwerij Huyghe Floris AppleHoly crap, this tastes like fizzy apple juice!

A leftover from the BA Belgian Beer Fest, this beer is brought to the USA by Wetten Importers. It’s made by Brouwerij Huyghe and clocks in at a low 3.5% ABV. The beer comes in a brownish 11.2 oz. bottle with green foil and the words “Floris Apple” (also referred to as Floris Pommes) across the front. Neither the bottle nor the website say much aside from “beer brewed with spices and juice of apple”. In fact, information on this beer is scarce, and I suspect that it may be extremely difficult to find in stores. Your best bet is probably to contact Wetten and see if it’s distributed in your area. The beer isn’t even listed on BeerAdvocate!

This incredible Belgian lambic pours out like a cloudy apple juice, reminiscent of cider, and loses its head quickly. It smells lightly of apple juice and unidentifiable spices, and it tastes as you would expect. It’s a very pleasant, light apple flavor that would work incredibly well on a sunny afternoon picnic or as dessert. Basically, this beer showcases the abilities of a lambic, and for people who absolutely hate even slightly malty, hoppy, or bitter beers, I would highly recommend this. This is a great introduction to the wider world of beer, particularly Belgian lambics, and it’s a real shame that this style isn’t a greater part of the American palate.

Anyway, I have a ton more beers to drink and review. Don’t let me slack off! (I already have been.) The only reason I even got off my lazy butt to write this review was because I really didn’t want to forget this one.

Sometimes when I reflect back on all the beer I drink I feel ashamed - Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the brewery and all of their hopes and dreams. If I didn't drink this beer, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself, 'It is better that I drink this beer and let their dreams come true than be selfish and worry about my liver.
