Here’s a good article about participating in the annual wine harvest in France. Each September and October, winemakers hire a slew of temporary workers to harvest and process the grapes. There’s no need to pay for crush camp. Instead, you can get the real deal and have them pay you. Of course, this is actual labor rather than a relaxing vacation, which Barchfield writes about in backbreaking detail. Also, the pay isn’t exactly great. However, if you’re lucky, you can find a winery that will provide food and accomodations.
