Beer Sommeliers
With the resurgence of craft beer and newfound interest in the drink that’s older than wine, restaurants are adding beer sommeliers to their payrolls. However, Joe Sixpack points out that this is part of the dreaded “winofication” of beer. Just look at many of the reviews at BeerAdvocate or other beer review sites and see what he means.
However, the buck stops here, and Russell proposes a better alternative to “beer sommelier”: cellarman (or cellarwoman).
I like it. It’s better than “beer sommelier”, as sommelier specifically refers to wine, and who wants another hoity-toity French word in our language like cervosier? Besides, beer isn’t really French. His argument makes sense to me.
So, who wants to hire me to be their restaurant’s cellarman?
