“Beer Is Food” Say Czechs
The Czech Republic recently vetoed a proposed alcohol tax in the European Union on the basis that beer is food.
Need I say more?
OK, I will anyway, but you can skip the rest of this entry. The veto was also based on cultural attachment to beer and brewing, an alleged bias towards wine drinkers, and Czech medical research citing the health benefits of moderate beer drinking.
