21-Year-Old Muslim Whiskey

It may sound like an oxymoron, but Muslim whiskey truly does exist. Pakistan’s Murree Brewing Company is ready to unveil its 21-year-old single malt whiskey, Murree’s Millenium Reserve. The whiskey will only be locally available to non-Muslims, as not only is it illegal for Muslims to consume alcohol but the export of alcohol is also against the law.

If the whiskey is anything like its 12-year-old sister, it may be worth a trip to Pakistan. Jim Murray writes that Murree Malt Classic “is much better than a number of lesser Scotch malts which come nowhere near in matching this whiskey’s crisp and delicate maltiness.”
