New Year’s Resolutions

ChampagneWith the massive headache and slight urge to vomit, I know that yet another year has arrived. To ring it in, we went out to Boston Billiard Club in Fenway where we had a pool table, an all-you-can-eat buffet, and the traditional crappy champagne toast for one high price. Then again, I think I ate $25+ of prime rib from that buffet and we did have a pool table for the whole evening, so in all, it wasn’t a bad trade. Plus, I now have a Made in China rubber bracelet keepsake emblazoned with “BBC New Years Eve ‘07″.

Anyway, with the new year here, it’s time to make some resolutions. I know I can follow these, as they’re related to the Best Activity in the World—drinking.

  1. I will drink less. OK, I’ll probably break just this one. However, I definitely want to cut down. I’m still working on hitting that sweet spot of about 1-2 drinks per day. Some days, it’s zero. Other days, it’s a lot more than one to two, but studies consistently show that moderate drinking (and this definition varies widely) is best for health while complete abstinence and heavy drinking (even in occasional spurts) are much worse.
  2. I will drink better. There will be no more reaching for the Bud Light just because I’m at a party where there’s nothing better to drink. Besides, if I’m going to stick to resolution #1, then I don’t want to fill up on crummy alcohol. I want to get the most mileage out of those couple drinks.
  3. I will post at least once a day. There have been days where I’ve just felt too lazy or hungover to bother with posting. No more! In fact, I just splurged on a Sony VAIO UX, so I should have no excuse even when traveling.
  4. I will post in a timely fashion. When I come across a great link, I usually copy and paste it into a note for myself. Then, I laze around and oftentimes end up deleting it, as the relevance has passed. No more of that! Plus, I have a growing stack of stuff on my desk (and growing collection of bottles) I need to review. I will be more timely.
  5. I will add awesome features. Expect great things to come at Days That End in Y this year. I keep on mentioning cool new features I plan to add but never get around to implementing them. Now’s the time to do it in between sips.

Anyway, I think that’s more than enough for me to handle. What did all of you do last night? And what are your drinking-related New Year’s resolutions?

I’m looking forward to those awesome features. I went to a party in Somerville last night. It was given in a condo that was empty because the people had moved out. An ideal way to give a party. No drinking resolutions. When you grow up with a father who owned a liquor store, drinking is just not that attractive. I drink very moderately. Looking forward to more of your posts in the new year.

I feel sorry for people who don't drink. When they wake up in the morning, that's as good as they're going to feel all day.
