As Rachael Ray would put it, “Yumm-o!”
I’m here in Phoenix, AZ for the weekend (well, technically Chandler, but who knows where that is?) and figured I’d try some of the local beer. The friend whom I conned into housing me had a bottle left in his barren bachelor fridge, so I snagged it. The plan is to definitely head to Four Peaks for brunch tomorrow and to try some more suds.
Anyway, regarding Kiltlifter Scottish-Style Ale, I’m impressed. It pours a medium-dark caramel brown with a reddish tinge. The head disappears quickly, leaving behind a slight ring of white bubbles around the edge, and the ale has a malty smell with a hint of hops
The taste is very smooth with no bitterness, and the beer itself clocks in at a surprising 6% ABV. It’s stronger on the malt but not overly so, and the brew is very balanced. The taste lingers awhile with a pleasant finish and really makes me wish I had a block of cheese to complement it.
Kiltlifter is Four Peaks’ flagship ale and won the Bronze at GABF in 1989, 1999, and 2003. If you’re in Arizona, then I highly recommend picking up a bottle. Better yet, try it on tap, though this particular bottle tastes very fresh regardless. To discover if Kiltlifter is available near you, enter in your location at the Four Peaks site.

I have sampled the Four Peaks Kiltlifter, both bottled and on tap, and found it to be very good.
I am amazed bordering on stupification that people can go back to drinking mass produced swill (e.g. Bud, Coors, Miller, etc.) after drinking a quality beer like Kiltlifter.
I can buy a case of Blatz for less than $9. I would rather drink one bottle of Kiltlifter than a case of Blatz.
