Daisuke Matsuzaka’s Beer Ad

Remember how I wrote a brief blurb about how the new Red Sox pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka’s beer ad was offending people? Well, here’s the ad in question. Seriously, what’s wrong with it (unless it says something really offensive in Japanese, which I don’t understand)? And why is it so bad for an athlete to be seen drinking beer on TV? Give me a break. It’s not like he’s driving around with a baby in his lap, divorcing his backup dancer, checking into rehab, and shaving his head. He’s just drinking a beer—which has nothing inherently wrong with it!

Sometimes when I reflect back on all the beer I drink I feel ashamed - Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the brewery and all of their hopes and dreams. If I didn't drink this beer, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself, 'It is better that I drink this beer and let their dreams come true than be selfish and worry about my liver.
