March Blogosphere Update

Drinking Blogs around the World

While I was off traveling the world, I mostly ignored all the other drinking blogs to which I subscribe. The reason? I have all of the URLs saved in Safari and use it to read the feeds, but I wasn’t necessarily connected to the Internet with my own computer. Perhaps it’s time to switch to an online feed aggregator.
Anyway, there was some pretty interesting stuff posted by my fellow bloggers during all this time. Here’s the promised update.
First, over at The Art of Drink, Darcy put together a great list of 50 signs you’re a bad bartender. My favorite is #38: “A 60 year old lady asks for a nice cocktail and you server her a 1-800-Fuck-Me-Up.” This then elicited a comment pointing out a great forum thread entitled “You might be a cocktail snob/geek if…” More recently, Darcy added a neat article about how to make vermouth. Some of the suggested ingredients might be really hard to find, though.
Another blog I found early on, Making Homemade Wine and Beer, made me wish I had a gigantic backyard, so I could start planting my own grapevines. Then again, considering all the dead plants in my life, starting a vineyard may not be in my future. In case you do have a few acres to spare and a green thumb, though , don’t forget to learn how to prune and build trellises.
Heading over to The Martini Lounge, which probably has the most similar voice to Days That End in Y, Rick served up a large number of neat topics. These caught my eye, particularly the free book:
- Singlemalt.tv might go public
- Reef Dram Sandal: Drink from your feet?
- Vote for your favorite wine rack
- Beer freezing instantly
- LazyDrinker Automatic Drink Mixer
- Free shot book
- Chilled in 60 Seconds
In other blogosphere news, jealousy hit me when I read that Jeffrey Morgenthaler was at the Vegas Bar and Restaurant Show, only the biggest event of the year to which I cannot possibly afford to go. Then, there was this note about PubQuest, a cool talk about how beer is the best beverage in the world (via The Brew Site), and good news that wine saves Medicare money. Hopefully, the last will manifest itself in lower insurance premiums for wine drinkers.
Lastly, one sad note: Women with Wine is no longer. To remove or not to remove from the blogroll?
