Breweries Breweries Everywhere!
Just in time for Brew Day (which was April 7 in case you don’t follow Today’s Reason to Drink, the big news of last week is the Latrobe brewery (former home to Rolling Rock) is now going to be used by Boston-based Samuel Adams (or really, Boston Beer Co.) in an agreement with City Brewery. With more interest in craft beer, and in particular Sam Adams, the company has been growing like crazy and needed another plant. Operations at the existing Boston and Cincinnati breweries shouldn’t be affected by this news.
Then, there’s more news on the beer front. American behemoth Anheuser-Busch (the company originally responsible for the whole Latrobe mess in the first place) is expanding into Foshan, China in Guangdong Province with its first greenfield brewery outside of the US. Yup, billions of Chinese people will soon know the joy it is to have a Budweiser!

It’s nice to know that they’ll still be making beer in Latrobe (even if it’s no longer a local product). Here in Pittsburgh there was much rending of garments and gnashing of teeth at the prospect of that plant sitting unused.
