Toss Aside the Popcorn at the Movies…

…And get me a beer!

Somerville Theater in Davis Square in Somerville, MA now serves wine and Harpoon beer. Patrons can buy one drink each, and they can take those drinks to their seats. Drinks also aren’t too overpriced. A 16 oz. beer will run cost you $4, and a glass of wine will cost you $6.

My question is why hasn’t this been done until now? It’s rather ridiculous that movie theaters haven’t been willing to/haven’t been able to alcohol. The entire movie experience stinks already with high ticket prices, crappy movies, and overpriced eats. Liquoring people up would make all those problems seem so much less like problems, and I’m more than happy to overlook the occasional loud, drunk bozo so I, too, can have a drink while watching the latest blockbuster.

Of course, since Davis Square is a good hour away from where I live via the T, I’ll never go to this movie theater anyway. But good try, guys.

I think that you’ll find more and more movie houses serving beer an wine. The Alamo Drafthouse theaters (all over South and Central Texas) more than live up to their name.

The Bijou, our avant-garde theater here in San Antonio has been doing so for more than a year now.

Texas is not known for its progressive attitude towards alcohol or its taste in beer and wine, so if it’s happening here, it must be happening all over.

Without question, the greatest invention in the history of mankind is beer. Oh, I grant you that the wheel was also a fine invention, but the wheel does not go nearly as well with pizza.
