Classifying Wine

Admit it. You have no idea what pairs with this pizza.

When shopping for a wine or ordering off a menu, you generally look for the particular varietal or region you want and then choose a wine from there. This usually results in confusion, hysteria, nervousness, indecision, etc.
This is crap.
A new winery, Wine That Loves, is aiming to change that by classifying wines not by varietal or terroir or something-else-you-don’t-actually-understand but by foods. With names like “Wine That Loves Grilled Steak” and “Wine That Loves Pizza with Tomato Sauce”, they’re taking the food pairing thing to a whole new level by practically ignoring everything that most oenophiles snobbishly appreciate.
I applaud their idea and hope that it catches on, though maybe not to the extreme they want, because even with a little knowledge, picking an appropriate wine is still a challenge.
